Three ways to stand with Planned Parenthood on #PinkOut Day (even from your desk!)

CREDO employees stand with Planned Parenthood
Our friends at Planned Parenthood are organizing a National #PinkOut Day today, September 29, to demonstrate just how many people across the country are willing to stand up and fight for Planned Parenthood. Will you show your support for Planned Parenthood and reproductive freedom?

Here are three quick and easy ways you can participate in #PinkOut Day today, even if it’s from your desk:

1.2 million petitions to Congress: No cuts to Planned Parenthood

On Tuesday, together with representatives from Daily Kos, MoveOn and Democracy for America, I delivered more than 1.2 million petition signatures, including more than 770,000 from CREDO activists, to Democratic Leader Harry Reid and Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Leader Reid and Sen. Warren are fierce champions of women’s rights and strong defenders of Planned Parenthood. They made clear how grateful they are for your activism, and I made clear how grateful we are for their leadership. I also shared our commitment to doing everything we can to make sure that every Democrat in the Senate joins them in holding the line against any deals or compromises that result in cuts to Planned Parenthood, even if holding the line means risking a government shutdown.

Join me below the fold for photos from the petition delivery, some thoughts on where things stand, and what you can do to stop Republicans from defunding Planned Parenthood.

CREDO stands with Planned Parenthood

Together, CREDO and its members have raised over $3 million for Planned Parenthood, making us Planned Parenthood’s largest corporate donor.

And together, we can do even more to support women’s access to vital healthcare services. When you join CREDO Mobile or refer your friends you increase our support for Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood counts on us to stand with them against relentless right-wing attacks—and we’re standing strong.

  • In July, CREDO members voted to donate $80,000 to Planned Parenthood, our largest nonprofit donation that month.
  • Recently over 200,000 CREDO supporters signed our petition telling Republicans not to defund Planned Parenthood.
  • Nearly 150,000 CREDO members signed a petition to Democrats in Congress to rebuff the Republican attack on women’s healthcare.
  • Over 4,000 CREDO supporters called Democrats in Congress to encourage them to continue working to keep Planned Parenthood clinics open nationwide.

$90,191 to Union of Concerned Scientists, which uses rigorous science to defend the environment and fight for a healthier world.

$74,238 to Institute for America’s Future. It develops an economic agenda and message to promote economic populism in the United States, fighting austerity and economic inequality while organizing to protect Social Security and rein in Wall Street.

$61,218 to ColorOfChange, the nation’s largest online civil rights organization building grassroots political power for African-Americans and working for social change for all people.

Iran nuclear deal: CREDO praises historic milestone for peace over war

CREDO Action released the statement below in response to Senator Mikulski becoming the 34th Senator to announce her support for the Iran nuclear deal, ensuring that the deal will not be blocked by Congress:

“This is a huge deal. President Obama confronted a similar challenge over Iran to the one that George W. Bush faced over Iraq – but won peace through diplomacy rather than dragging us into another disastrous war of choice in the Middle East,” said CREDO Action Political Director Becky Bond. “A Democratic Party that wrongly voted in support of the invasion of Iraq over a decade ago, despite massive protests, this time listened to the grassroots who wrote, called, and rallied in huge numbers and stood with their president to stop a war with Iran.”

Obama’s trip to Alaska and “Mission Accomplished” moment on climate

Obama's trip to Alaska is controversial for progressives like CREDO activists
President Obama arrived in Alaska yesterday to talk about climate change, in the very place where he just approved Shell to drill in the Arctic. This despite the fact that scientists have made it clear: 100% of Arctic oil must stay in the ground if we want to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.

CREDO launched a campaign at www.MissionNotAccomplished.com to make sure the public and the press were aware that even as the president is making powerful speeches about climate change he was making the problem worse approving fossil fuel extraction on a massive scale. We are calling his trip to Alaska his “Mission Accomplished” moment. (You can read our reasoning in this post on Medium.)
