4 ways you can fight back against the attacks on the environment

Every day it seems like there’s a new, dangerous attack on the environment by the Trump administration: the nomination of longtime fossil fuel industry ally, Scott Pruitt, to lead the EPA; the pick of Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson to head the State Department; and Donald Trump’s recent executive orders to roll back President Obama’s Clean Power Plan and restart construction on the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines.

And we know these are just the tip of the iceberg. Trump has pledged to dismantle decades of long-standing regulations that keep our air and water clean and our food safe.

We can fight back. With Earth Day fast approaching, we’d like to share four ways you can join the fight and stand up to the attacks.

Get Ready for the People’s Climate March: Here Are your Protest Posters

During the first months of the Trump presidency, the resistance to his agenda has been incredibly inspiring. Millions of people across the country – including many who have never engaged in activism before – have been raising their voices together to hold Trump accountable.

If you’re like many of us here at CREDO, you’ve also been taking to the streets and speaking out in your community at rallies and marches. From the Women’s March on Washington, to the dozens of rallies held at airports to oppose Donald Trump’s Muslim ban, to the Women’s Strike on International Women’s Day, CREDO members and activists have come together, organized and led the resistance against Trump’s hate.

With each march and rally, we’ve been inspired by the ingenuity, wit and passion our fellow marchers have shown in the signs they make and carry with them. We’ve also gotten some great feedback on the signs we created for the Women’s March and seen you proudly carrying them as far away as the Women’s March in Switzerland.

So, now we’ve designed a series of climate justice posters for the People’s Climate March on April 29 in Washington, D.C. and in cities across the country. To mark the 100th day of Trump’s presidency, while he continues to stack his administration with climate deniers and allies of the fossil fuel industry, hundreds of thousands of people will fill the streets to protest Trump’s dangerous actions regarding the EPA, climate and environment, and show that our climate movement is bigger than ever before.

We’d love your feedback on these posters and to see them spread far and wide. So please download, share and print and keep standing strong with support from all of us here at CREDO. Enjoy and see you at the next march!

How to Protect Your Data at the Border

Since the inauguration of Donald Trump, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have been demanding that travelers hand over the passwords to their mobile devices at the border for agents to search and collect data at an alarming rate.1

CBP believes that your Fourth Amendment rights don’t apply at the border and claims it has the right to search, confiscate and download personal data from your phone without a warrant or probable cause, regardless of your citizenship or immigration status. A 2017 investigation by NBC News of searches of American citizens at the border found that in the vast majority of cases reviewed 23 out of 25 Muslim passengers were singled out.2

New video: CREDO stands with Muslim Advocates against Trump’s bigotry

During the campaign and since he’s entered the White House, Donald Trump has waged an extremist war against the Muslim community like we’ve never seen before. He’s called for a “total and complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the country, appointed anti-Muslim bigots to serve in the White House and signed two executive orders banning Muslims from entering the country.

At the same time, his tidal wave of bigotry has spilled into the streets and into the mainstream. Hate crimes against Muslims have risen 67 percent, and the number of anti-Muslim groups has tripled since the election.

This March, we welcomed Muslim Advocates Public Advocacy Director Scott Simpson and Deputy Director Naheed Qureshi to CREDO headquarters for a conversation about the reality of discrimination against Muslims and other minority communities in the Trump era.

10 Simple Steps to a Smaller Carbon Footprint

By now, everyone outside the Trump administration and right-wing circles knows carbon pollution is a catastrophic problem for our planet. Climate change is heating the planet, extinguishing species and threatening our food supply.

To stop runaway climate change, we will ultimately need politicians to enact policies requiring that fossil fuels be left in the ground. While we fight for those policies, there are also actions we can take as individuals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Here are 10 easy things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint and help fight climate change.

1. Change your lightbulbs. A couple years ago, we were replacing our incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lightbulbs. Now we’re replacing our CFLs with LEDs, which use 40 percent less energy than CFLs, provide better-quality light and last for decades when used a few hours a day. You can reduce your carbon footprint by six tons per year just by installing LEDs in your home.1

Our favorite features of the new Nougat OS for Android

Google is in the process of rolling out the latest update to its operating system for Android devices. Google made the update available for some devices last August and is gradually pushing it out to others. If you haven’t already, you’ll get a notification when Nougat is available for your device. Here are some of our favorite features.

Thank you from our March grantees

Each month, CREDO members and activists vote on how we distribute our monthly donation to three amazing organizations fighting for progressive causes. We’re making sure these donations are reaching the hands of organizations that are on the forefront of resisting the Trump agenda. Last month, a record-breaking 120,000 CREDO members voted on how to distribute our March donations to Americans for Tax Fairness, Detention Watch Network and Rainforest Action Network, three groups actively fighting Trump’s actions.

These donations are made possible by thousands of CREDO customers and the revenue they generate through using our services. Their distribution depends entirely on the votes of CREDO members like you. And for that, our March grant recipients thank you.

Americans for Tax Fairness
“Thank you for your vote in support of Americans for Tax Fairness. CREDO is an incredible partner in our fight for a fairer tax system. Together we’re demanding that Washington politicians create a tax system that works for everyone, not just the wealthy and large corporations.” To learn more, visit americansfortaxfairness.org.
